About the ITRS

RegionsThe International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors is sponsored by the five leading chip manufacturing regions in the world: Europe, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and the United States. The sponsoring organizations are the European Semiconductor Industry Association (ESIA), the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA), the Korean Semiconductor Industry Association (KSIA), the Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (TSIA), and the United States Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA).

The objective of the ITRS is to ensure cost-effective advancements in the performance of the integrated circuit and the advanced products and applications that employ such devices, thereby continuing the health and success of this industry.

The ITRS process and content evolves to match the needs of the semiconductor industry.  Collaboration of industry and research continues to be invaluable to understand and assess as well as possible the needs of future inventions and technical challenges in the various spectra of micro- and nano-electronics.  Over the past few years, the ITRS teams have worked closely to assess emerging technologies.  They indicate an approaching world of vast interconnectedness with humans and hardware, phrased as the internet of things (IoT), and the complex world of information processing known as big data.  These examples are only part of the new frontier of invention and discovery.  As these new focus topics emerge, the ITRS teams will continue to determine what this means for our global industry.  The industry must define the new drivers to help it stay on a path of productivity and profitability, while promoting environmental health and encouraging areas of innovation for new scientists and technologists.

ITRS Process

Teamwork

Through the cooperative efforts of the global chip manufacturers and equipment suppliers, research communities, and consortia, the Roadmap teams identify critical challenges, encourage innovative solutions, and welcome participation from the semiconductor community.

These teams are joining with other strategic roadmapping efforts [such as electronics and nanotechnologies] so the Roadmap effort comprehends the spectrum of needs for basic research capabilities and product potentials.

Public Conferences

ITRS conferences are held each year for public review and comment. We partner with other organizations in webcasts and virtual conferences, expanding the ITRS presence online and creating other opportunities for participation.

As part of the growing community of scientists, technical experts, and industry researchers, you can shape the success of the industry. We hope to engage your help as we progress into the historical nanoelectronics age with promising new devices, processes, materials, factory sciences, and related technologies.

The ITRS is devised and intended for technology assessment only and is without regard
to any commercial considerations pertaining to individual products or equipment.
